Historic Summary
- The Mission Church began in 1910 as a collection of home groups established by Miss Rachel Lee. She was a missionary to India and an itinerant preacher who traveled by horseback to various homes conducting Bible studies. After her death in 1913, the fellowship continued to grow and purchased a building on Farmers Mills Road. It was there the church established itself in the community as the “Farmers Mills Mission” and enjoyed fruitful ministry for decades to come.
- In 1972, Rev. Joseph R. DeSha or “Brother Joe” became pastor of the church. Under his leadership the church experienced significant growth and expanded its facilities. By the mid 1980’s, the congregation outgrew its facilities and erected a new building on Route 52 which it relocated to in 1987 and changed its name to “The Mission Church.”
- In 1989, Rev. Gregg Johnson began his ministry at The Mission Church and was elected senior pastor in 1992. Since then, the church constructed a large fellowship hall, affiliated with the Assemblies of God, implemented two Sunday Morning services, launched a Christian school, and added several associate pastors.
- The Mission Church is also making an impact around the world. Through Global Leadership Training we conduct leadership conferences in sub-Saharan Africa and India equipping church, civic, corporate and national leaders with bible-based leadership training. As well, we publish Leadership Teaching Magazine which is provided to approximately 4,000 leaders around the world on a quarterly basis.
- Indeed, The Mission Church has enjoyed a rich and dynamic history made possible by the dedication of those who went before us. What they did was great, but the best is yet to come. God is looking for a new generation of Mission Church members to build upon the foundations laid and take the vision further.
